Warning, speed cameras ahead
This is just a short post. Well, it’s more of a confession. I’ve made a bit of a financial booboo, and I feel the need to come clean about this. When I post my next update, in March, logically, my debt reduction is not going to look very impressive. I thought I would let you know what has happened. I was minding my own business driving home from playing football last week (I say ‘playing’, we lost 5 nil, but that’s another story) when I was pulled over by her Majesty’s Police Force.
To cut a long story short, I was driving too fast and was caught by a pesky speed gun. The policeman (who was actually very nice) said I had three options, and that I would soon be receiving a letter through the post outlining these options. They are:
1. Go to Court
I don’t fancy this option as I don’t really have a sensible defence.
2. Accept 3 points on my licence
This tantalising option is also accompanied by a £60 fine. Although this on the face of it is the cheapest option, I will have to declare these points on future car insurance applications, meaning that my premiums are very likely to go up in price.
3. Attend a safer driving course
This is the most expensive option in the short term, costing between £85, and £90. It will require 3 hours of my time, although it does not count as a conviction, and I do not have to declare it when it’s time to renew my insurance.
I’ll be going with option 3 I think. Short term pain, for long term damage limitation. It’s an absolute nuisance of course, but I can’t blame anyone else for it, I was driving and should have been more careful.
I’m off to do some self flagellation….
