Q – I’m 56 and am considering taking early retirement to spend more time with my family. Whilst I am able to start receiving my private pension immediately, what happens with my state pension? – Richard
This is a hot topic at the moment Richard, so I’m glad you asked about it! Currently, the earliest that men can start to draw their state pension is 65. This is due to change in 2016 though, when the age men can start to draw their pension increases to 66. There is even talk of this being increased further to 68. Apparently it’s our own fault for living longer! Anyway, in your case, until things have got through Parliament and changed, you can draw your pension money when you hit 65.
